Amazon Acquires Spanish e-Retailer BuyVIP For $96 Million
Madrid, Spain (AHN) – Online shopping site Amazon.com has acquired Spanish Internet retailer BuyVIP for $96.5 million as it breaks into the premium goods retail market.
The four-year-old BuyVIP offers overstocks of signature clothes and accessories at large discounts to its six million members in Europe. CEO Gustavo García Brusilovsky and Gerald Heydenreich founded the site in Spain and Germany in 2006.
The acquisition of the Madrid-based e-retailer follows Amazon’s purchase of online music store Amie Street last month and Woot in the summer.
Last year, Amazon bought online clothing shop Zappos for a whopping $850 million.
