BIOS Replacement Should Offer Instant-On PCs In 2011
New York, NY, United States (AHN) – If you are tired of waiting forever for your PC to boot up, your wait might be over with the introduction of a new system that will allow computers to start operating in mere seconds.
The current Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) can take from 30 seconds to several minutes to boot up a computer. It has been in use on computers for 25 years.
However, the new Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Forum interface developed by Intel could be on machines as early as 2011, offering nearly instant-on PCs.
Right now, developers are still tweaking UEFI and have not yet achieved instant-on PCs, but they say they expect to do so soon.
Other companies are also trying to develop instant-on technology for computers.
