Michigan State win streak extends to five at Florida State’s expense

East Lansing, MI, United States (AHN Sports) – Michigan State has won five straight men’s basketball games but coach Tom Izzo was especially happy with win No. 5.
Keith Appling netted 24 points and brought down seven rebounds while Brandon Wood and Draymond Green added 16 points apiece to lead Michigan State past Florida State 65-49 Wednesday night at the Breslin Center.
Wood also grabbed 10 rebounds and Green had eight.
Bernard James had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Florida State while Michael Snaer added 11 points.
“This is a big win for us,” Izzo said. “They’re a very good team and I thought defensively we were very good.”
“We knew this was going to be a hard-fought game,” said Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton. “Michigan State does a great job with their physicality, working the boards. Two of their guards (Appling and Wood) had 17 rebounds and 40 points. That kind of breaks our backs.”
Florida State trailed 30-18 late in the first half but came back. Two free throws by Florida State’s Jon Kreft tied the game 38-38 with 12:27 to play in the second half.
Appling’s free throws midway in the second half made it a 46-42 MSU lead. He then netted a 3-pointer with 8:01 to play for a 51-42 lead and the MSU defense went on from there. Appling’s layup with 1:52 left made it 56-42.
Wood scored 10 points and brought down three rebounds to lift Michigan State to a 30-26 lead at halftime.
Wood’s 3-pointer at 11:05 and again at 10:02, to beat the buzzer, gave the Spartans a 17-13 advantage.
“We didn’t have many guys to go to,” Izzo said. “Brad Wood made some big shots.”
Travis Tricehit hit a triple to give MSU a 22-18 lead at the 7-minute mark. Appling’s triple made it 25-18.
Adreian Payne’s free throw made it 30-18 but the Seminoles scored the last eight points of the half.
“It was old school basketball,” said Izzo. “Florida State has played four games in seven days. I thought they wore down a bit.”
“We give them credit to have the ability to execute what they wanted to do in those stretches and our inability to come away with rebounds and defensive stops and then we turned the ball over several times. I thought Michigan State did a good job stripping our big guys and putting the ball on the floor.”
Michigan State improved at 5-2 while Florida State is 5-3. The game featured two of the best defensive teams in the nation. The Spartans are ranked 11th in scoring defense and the Seminoles are rated 10th in field goal defense.
The Spartans were at home in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the first time since 2007 as the Big Ten hopes to win its third straight challenge.
Midway through the first half, the game was delayed 15 minutes following a timeout when a Michigan State cheerleader was dropped during a performance and fell on her back at midcourt.
Medical personnel attended to her for 15 minutes before taking her off on a stretcher for precautionary measures, said a courtside official, who added that the cheerleader was doing OK.
“I didn’t see it happen but I think (one of the players) did,” Izzo said. “One of the guys came in the huddle and told me. I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I did check on it after and our doctor said that everything seems to be OK with her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her. That was tough.”

You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
