New York, NY, United States (AHN) – On Sunday, October 17 at noon, journalist Ed Gordon will air a one-on-one interview with Condoleezza Rice on his show, “Weekly with Ed Gordon.” This is a highly-anticipated interview, and Gordon is sure to ask some tough questions.

Gordon will sit down with the former National Security Advisor and current Secretary of State to talk about her childhood in the segregated south, and how she got on her political path which led her to hold high level positions in the White House. Gordon will also talk to Rice about her memoir, “Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family.”

The memoir hit stores Oct. 14. The book doesn’t contain any information or detail about Rice’s jobs in the White House, but rather details her childhood in Birmingham, AL, during the 1950s when segregation was at its height, how she started playing piano, and how her parents gave her an opportunity for a successful, happy life.

Gordon will also hold a round table discussion to talk about hot issues in politics with various celebrities, including Susan Taylor, CEO of National Cares Mentoring Movement, Soledad O’Brien of CNN, and Anthony Coley, former press secretary and chief spokesman for New Jersey.

“Weekly with Ed Gordon” is a BET platform to engage the most prolific thinkers, newsmakers and lawmakers on a weekly basis with a focus on issues pertaining to African American communities.

CNN Fires Rick Sanchez Over Racist Comments

Atlanta, GA, United States (AHN) – CNN has fired one their most outspoken anchors. Rick Sanchez was terminated from his position at the network cable news source Friday, a day after he made controversial comments about Jews and John Stewart during a radio interview.

CNN released a brief statement saying, “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

Sanchez’s hot water comments occurred on Pete Dominick’s SIRIUS radio show on Thursday while he was there to promote his book “Conventional Idiocy.”

Sanchez began the conversation by calling the “Daily Show” host a “bigot” and equated him with “elite, Northeast establishment liberals” who “deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.

“I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot,” he said. “I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.”

The conversation continued with Sanchez suggesting that CNN and the rest of the media were run by Jewish people:

“Very powerless people… [snickers] He’s such a minority, I mean, you know [sarcastically]… Please, what are you kidding? … I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they — the people in this country who are Jewish — are an oppressed minority? Yeah. [sarcastically]“

He later took retracted his “bigot” comment and opted to call Stewart “prejudicial.” Until Friday, Sanchez had been one of the network’s most outspoken daytime anchors.

On Oct. 24, 2009, International Day of Climate Action, citizens around the world joined 350.org in organizing more than 5,200 events in more than 180 countries in support of the 350 parts per million target. CNN called it the “most widespread day of political action in the planet’s history.” The latest science says that 350 ppm is the safe upper limit of CO2 in our atmosphere. We’re now at 390 ppm, which means we’ve got to get to work cutting carbon right now. Cutting pollution is not only good for our climate: It’s good for the economy, our health and our children’s future, too. This Oct. 10, millions of people around the world are joining the 10/10/10 Global Work Party to get to work on local climate solutions. Here is a short list of different actions occurring around the globe. Organizing a tree planting. Making solar cookers or solar heaters. Installing solar panels on churches and schools. Merchant Loans are Still Great Alternatives to Bank Loans

October 21, 2009 · Posted in Payday Loans · 1,866 Comments

Despite numerous federal efforts to make bank loans available to small business owners, bank lending is still extremely low and merchant loans are still serving as an excellent alternative.  In the last five months, the 22 biggest Tarp recipients have cut their outstanding lending balances by $8 billion, according to Catherine Clifford of CNN Money.  These statistics have obviously led small business owners into the arms of alternative funds providers.

Attributable to the availability of merchant loans, small business owners have been able to get up to $500,000 for their businesses and use it without restrictions.  Even merchants with no collateral and lower credit scores have had access to these funds and they have been able to renew their accounts approximately every three and-a-half months.

According to CNN Money, there are other initiatives in the works, to help boost bank lending to small businesses.  For example, the President will unveil programs that “…increase the maximum amount businesses can borrow through the Small Business Administration’s primary loan program…[and] expand access for smaller banks to the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), a move aimed at spurring more local lending by community banks,” according to CNN Money.

However, in the meantime, small business owners still need access to business cash now.  Moreover, when bank lending does improve small business owners can still use merchant loans if they don’t qualify for bank loans, if they don’t want to endure long waiting periods for bank funds, or even in addition to bank loans.

Merchant loans can be approved in only 48 hours and funded in as little as five business days.  Qualified merchants have owned their business for at least six months, process at least $3,500 in monthly credit card sales, have at least one year remaining on the business lease and have no unresolved bankruptcies.
