Winter Classic on horizon: HBO series assisting Rangers-Flyers tilt

Philadelphia, PA, United States (AHN Sports) – For the next few weeks, HBO will be all over the Flyers like Chris Pronger on a forward in the slot. The ’24/7′ series will cover the Flyers and New York Rangers throughout the Winter Classic, which is slated for January 2 at Citizens Bank Park.
The initial episode recently debuted and chronicled the last week of Flyers/ Rangers action.
The cameras captured the behind scenes world of the two of the Eastern Conference’s top teams without getting in the way.
“I don’t mind it at all,” Flyers forward Scott Hartnell said. “They don’t distract. They have a job to do and it’s good for hockey. The 24/7 shows are always very entertaining. I hope we’re as entertaining as what’s been on in the past.”
The Flyers and Rangers each have some colorful personalities. Unfortunately, two of the former’s stars, Pronger and NHL scoring leader Claude Giroux are out indefinitely with concussions.
Pronger is one of the NHL’s most intimidating and humorous players. Giroux is quirky but most significantly, one of the most gifted young forces in the game.
However, the series won’t hurt for color even without the constant presence of the aforementioned injured players.
Sean Avery, who is arguably the biggest agitator in the game, was a featured attraction during episode one of the series. The wacky Ranger was shot toiling as a model.
The Flyers young forward Wayne Simmonds was followed as he visited an inner-city hockey program funded by team owner Ed Snider, who has been giving back to the Philadelphia community since the team’s inception in 1967,
If the initial episode is typical of the series, the current 24/7 will not be as profane as last year’s model.
There are some obscenities tossed by Flyers coach Peter Laviolette and Rangers coach John Tortorella but they have nothing on Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau.
When coaching the Washington Capitols last season, who faced the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Winter Classic, Boudreau was so profane that he probably made Andrew ‘Dice’ Clay blush.
“I’m trying to watch what I say,” Hartnell said. “You have family watching and I’m trying not to go overboard.”
The beautiful, colonial cities are terrific backdrops since each is stunning in its own right. 90 miles separate the rival squads, as well as three points in the Atlantic Division.
“The whole Winter Classic thing is fun but you can’t get distracted by it,” winger James van Riemsdyk said. “It’s not just about that game. We have to play a bunch of others and we’re trying to win as many as we can. It’ll be an honor to play in that game across the street but we have a lot more on our minds than that.”
HBO will be there to capture all of that since 24/7 is about more than that much ballyhooed contest.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface.
